Small group adventures for solo female travelers bloom in North America!

Springtime is the season for new beginnings and this month, Carex is celebrating the arrival of our new sister adventure travel brand, Harriet Adventures – right here in North America!

*North American women will now get to enjoy the same authentic travel experiences Australian and New Zealand women have been loving since 2019.*

Specialising in small group adventures for +45 year-old solo female travelers, Harriet Adventures is the latest creation by our parent company, Leatherback Travel, who have deep-rooted expertise in running small group cultural trips through their Australian-based women’s only adventure travel brand, Patch Adventures.

We couldn’t be more excited to have Harriet join us here in our neck of the woods. But you’re probably wondering how this all came about?

Well, like nurturing a garden, it took all the right elements for the idea to grow…

Ever since their first Patch trip hit the ground running in 2019, the team at Leatherback recognised that an increasing number of US and Canadian women were inquiring about joining their trips.

Many had heard about Patch Adventures through their Australian and New Zealand friends and wanted to have the same kinds of real travel experiences they were having too; spending time with locals, learning about their lives and culture through home-stays and participating in craft and cooking workshops.

Just like their Aussie and Kiwi counterparts, North American women shared that:

Big bus tourism just wasn’t their thing – smaller suited them better
They wanted to really experience a destination, not just scratch the surface
They wanted grittier, off-the-beaten path adventures too – not run-of-the-mill tourist trails
Meeting like-minded women and making new friendships was important to them

These insights helped the team see a gap where the seeds of an idea were sown.

Then late last year, Leatherback Travel hit two major milestones in becoming Australia’s fastest growing travel company and achieving their best year ever for guest satisfaction.

They’d cultivated the perfect environment for branching out into new horizons.

And, here we are… ‘Hello, Harriet!’
